Games host nation Britain finally had something to cheer about, winning their first gold medal today, albeit at the expense of Australia in the women's pairs rowing event.
The British women's pairs motored down Eton Dorney to a rousing reception to cross first over the line with clear water behind them, followed by Australia in second place.
It was another crushing day in the pool as James Magnusson lost the 100m freestyle final by just 0.01 of a second.
But the women's 4x200m freestyle relay put on a brilliant performance to come home second in their final.
