London's spectacular opening ceremony, masterminded by Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle, has wowed fans around the world.

The quirky show began with peaceful farm scenes which were demolished as the industrial revolution took over, complete with forged Olympic rings.

Mary Poppins, the best of British music, a cameo by the Queen and James Bond actor Daniel Craig and a hilarious performance by Rowan Atkinson all featured.

In a break from tradition, the cauldron was lit by a group of young athletes.
