Stretching the human body to its very limit, weightlifting offers the most basic form of physical competition, a test of strength.

Competition in London will be split into 15 weight categories, eight for men and seven for women. The strongest can lift three times their body weight.

Dean Lukin won Australia's only gold medal in the sport in 1984.
