Aussie athletes: Aiming to qualify three men and three women

Beware China. Try as they might, table tennis players are still trying to match the Chinese in a sport they have simply dominated. Since table tennis joined the Olympics in 1988, China has won 20 of the available 24 gold medals.

Australia's best finish was a fifth in the women's doubles at the Sydney 2000 Games, courtesy of Shirley Zuo and Miao Miao.

Miao Miao and Jiang Fang Lay are attempting to become the first Australian table tennis athletes to compete at four Olympics.
