The Dakar Rally has been tearing through the plains and mountain ranges of South America for five years after being moved from Senegal after 2007.
The murder of four French tourists in Mauritania by a pro-al-Qaeda group, saw the iconic test of speed and endurance relocated for security reasons.
There have been calls for the rally to return to its birthplace, but until then enjoy these breathtaking images as the cars, bikes and trucks scream through Peru, Chile and Argentina.
