Australia have hung on to defeat a spirited Italy, despite a second-half slump which saw them concede 13 unanswered points in Florence.
Australia raced to a 22-6 half-time lead and were expected to put Italy away after the break. But the Azzurri started the second half with a try and kept the pressure on the Wallabies from there to just fall short.
The error-laden 22-19 Wallabies victory ensures coach Robbie Deans and his men are back under the pump going into their tour finale against Wales.
