McIlroy signs blockbuster deal with Nike

World No1 Rory McIlroy has signed one of the biggest sponsorship deals in sport, with estimates Nike will pay him up to $25m a year.

The 23-year-old already has two majors under his belt having won the US Open and a PGA Championship.

McIlroy was named best male player of 2012 by the Golf Writers Association of America, receiving 190 out of the 194 votes cast by GWAA members.

He turned professional when he was 19, following an extraordinary junior career.(Getty Images)
