Holden pair Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell have won the 50th anniversary Bathurst 1000 endurance race at Mount Panorama.

Whincup held off the fast-finishing challenge of Ford youngster David Reynolds to take out his fourth Bathurst crown. A brilliant drive by Craig Lowndes saw him claw his way onto the podium over the closing stages of the race.

Reigning champions Garth Tander and Nick Percat were in trouble early, with Percat putting the No2 Holden Racing Team car into a wall.
