Australia's Samantha Stosur will begin her US Open title defence as the seventh seed in the women's draw at Flushing Meadows.
Stosur faces a tough challenge with Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka the top seed in the tournament.
French Open champion Maria Sharapova is third seed, with Wimbledon champ Serena Williams fourth seed.
Three-time US Open champion Kim Clijsters also returns to the draw.
