All eyes will be on world No1 Roger Federer to see if he can add an unprecendented 18th grand slam title to his trophy cabinet at the 2012 US Open.
In the absence of Rafael Nadal, second and third seeds Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray will provide Federer with his sternest test. Murray will be looking for a breakthrough grand slam title after beating Federer to win gold at the London Olympics.
Bernard Tomic is Australia's highest ranked player and will be hoping for a strong showing after an inconsistent year.
