Roger Federer has returned to world No1 after claiming a record-equalling seventh Wimbledon title with a captivating victory over Andy Murray. Scotland's Murray felt the weight of his defeat as Britain's agonising 76-year run without a men's grand slam singles champion continued.
Federer's unmatched 17th major took him to the top of the world rankings, equalling Pete Sampras' record 286-week reign as world No1.
