Logan's Choice lands Randwick plunge

A big betting plunge was landed when Logan's Choice rocketed to a thrilling win at Randwick in what proved to be a good training performance from Barbara Joseph.

Logan's Choice was crunched from $5 into $3.50 in the TAB Number 1 Club Handicap (1200m).

Two starts back Logan's Choice was fifth in the 2000-metre Group Three Adrian Knox at Randwick in April and on Saturday the mare was having her second run of the preparation in the 1200-metre race.

Close observers in the members' grandstand before the race would have noticed Joseph and Logan's Choice's owners manoeuvring into the "press only" box which is in line with the winning post.

Joseph knew she'd be in the finish.

"I watched Vintage Rock from further down and I thought she ran third from where I was but she was fourth in the end, it was a terrible view from there," Joseph said.

"I was confident she'd run a race, so we found a better spot."

Ridden by Peter Robl, Logan's Choice was travelling fourth for most of the race before she went into overdrive and let down with a strong run to defeat Fashion Statement by a neck.

"She's more of a miler, so that was a great effort, it's hard to keep her fresh for 1200 metres but we've done that," Joseph said.

"There's a 1500-metre race in a couple of weeks here, we might have a look at that I'm not sure.

"The good barrier (eight) made a big difference and she was given a lovely run by Peter."

Logan's Choice came into the race after a second to Peace Academy over 1100 metres at Canterbury on October 21 when the mare was three-wide for the entire journey before she was edged out late.

Hussenor continued his good form for trainer Matthew Smith when he scored a thrilling neck victory over the fast-finishing Parfumier in the Star City Handicap (1400m).

The win gave Hussenor consecutive victories after he scored at Canterbury on October 21.
