Vintage Rock to bounce back at Randwick

Premier Canberra trainer Barbara Joseph is hoping Vintage Rock's trip to Randwick on Saturday's goes better than her previous one.

Vintage Rock lines up in the Star City Handicap (1400m).

The mare was scratched after a float mishap upon arrival at the track in Sydney's eastern suburbs on Epsom day early last month.

"They were loading her off the truck on that horrible new loading ramp and she slipped off and cut her back leg," Joseph said.

"We've been behind the eight-ball ever since after missing that run, we're trying to get her to the Canberra Cup."

The Listed Canberra Cup (2000m) is on November 29.

Six-year-old Vintage Rock comes into Saturday's race after an uncharacteristically poor showing at Rosehill where she was last on October 24.

"It was a very disappointing and frustrating performance," Joseph said.

Joseph admitted that she was surprised regular jockey Grant Buckley didn't give the mare some persuading in the race won by the fast-finishing Innings.

"He never touched her with the whip and she is a mare that needs a couple of hits to get her going," Joseph said.

"We had a good look over her but there was nothing wrong with her.

"It was right out of character, she's hardly ever finished further back than fifth in her career."

Joseph has opted for a gear change with blinkers going on.

"That will sharpen her up a little bit and hopefully help turn her around," Joseph said.

Vintage Rock was third to Blutigeroo in last year's Canberra Cup, two starts after her fifth in the Group Three Hawkesbury Cup.

Stablemate Logan's Choice will also be in action at Randwick in the TAB Number 1 Club Handicap (1200m).

The Redoute's Choice mare is coming off a gutsy second to Peace Academy at Canterbury on October 21.

Logan's Choice was three wide for the entire 1100-metre journey after jumping from barrier 13 while

Peace Academy got a lovely run along the inside and won by three-quarters of a length.

"Peace Academy got the dream run last time but she's drawn the outside (13) this time, so we might be the ones having luck," Joseph said.

"She's up against a lot better company but I expect her run a nice race.

"She just keeps improving all the time and I've kept her nice and fresh, so the 1200 should suit."

The Canterbury run was her first since a 28-week spell.

Two starts back she was fifth to Miss Darcey in the Group Three Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) at Randwick.

Logan's Choice has a win and three placings from her seven starts.
