Socceroo Mark Schwarzer (left) was among the Aussies to have a mixed weekend in the Europa League.

Harry Kewell's brilliant scoring form continued for Galatasaray but it was not a happy night for Socceroos teammates Tim Cahill and Mark Schwarzer in the Europa League on Thursday.

Kewell scored a stunning opener in the Turkish side's 3-0 win over Dinamo Bucharest in Romania to help them become the first team to qualify for the tournament's last 32.

It was the Socceroos winger's fourth goal in his past five matches for the club and a vintage strike from the former Liverpool and Leeds star.

Kewell intercepted a poor clearance just outside the box in the 22nd minute, brilliantly flicked the ball over his head with the outside of his foot, controlled with another touch, then unleashed a perfect finish.

Teammates Shabani Nonda and Mehmet Topal then found the back of the net to give Frank Rijkaard's men 10 points from their four games to date.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer had a tough afternoon as Fulham's hopes of advancing from their group were dented when Roma came from behind to beat the Cottagers 2-1 in Italy.

Diomansy Kamara shocked the Stadio Olimpico by scoring a penalty on 19 minutes but everything then went downhill for the visitors as substitute Erik Nevland was dismissed within three minutes of coming on for a heavy challenge on Daniele De Rossi.

Schwarzer was then unluckily beaten by a deflected shot from former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise in the 69th minute before Stefano Okaka headed the winner six minutes later.

Things went from bad to worse for Fulham, who ended with nine men when left-back Paul Konchesky was sent off for a foul on Rodrigo Taddei.

The defeat was Roy Hodgson's first in the group and they now stand third, two points behind Roma with two games remaining.

At Goodison Park, Cahill again led out Everton but they were outclassed for the second time by Benfica, who won 2-0 after a strike from Javier Saviola and an acrobatic volley from Oscar Cardozo to leave the Portuguese side three points clear at the top of Group I.

The loss left the Toffees without a win in seven matches in all competitions.

Celtic's hopes of advancing hang by a thread after they could only manage a goalless draw with German side Hamburg.

The Scottish side, who have just one win in 25 European away ties, prop up group C after axed Socceroos striker Scott McDonald missed two good chances at the Nordbank Arena.

Australia winger David Carney played a full match as Dutch side FC Twente scored a 2-1 home win over Moldovan side Sheriff to move to second in Group H.
