Australia's Mark Bresciano (in pink) says he might sign a new contract with Sicilian club Palermo.

Australia midfielder Mark Bresciano on Wednesday gave his biggest indication yet that he might sign a new contract with Palermo, saying he has no desire to leave the Sicilian club.

Palermo have had a good start to the season with Bresciano adopting a defensive midfield position in coach Walter Zenga's team.

And the 29-year-old, who joined the Sicilians from Parma in 2006 after a previous spell at Empoli, said he's considering extending his stay.

"Of course there's a possibility that I'll stay at Palermo. I feel very good here and I've got no reason to leave," he said.

"Over the last few years I've never played with such consistency or had the same confidence of the coach and my team-mates, a player couldn't ask for anything more.

"This season my position on the field is a little deeper than over the last few seasons, I'm more involved in the defensive part of the game.

"I'm not scoring so much, I'm trying but it's more difficult now."

The Melbourne-born Socceroo has played 51 times for Australia and first came to Italy, the country of his ancestors, in 1999.
