Bart Cummings could be on track to take home his 13th Melbourne Cup on a day that promises to have racegoers holding onto their hats.
The veteran trainer's main charge and 2008 cup winner Viewed is still the firm favourite to win the $5.65 million race.
Betting agencies reported strong activity in the 24 hours since the final field was declared on Saturday with Viewed shading South Australian Alcopop who had been equal favourite.
Cummings has two other contenders for the trophy with Viewed stablemates Roman Emperor and Allez Wonder also lining up for the 3200 metre race.
But crowds flocking trackside will not be treated to the same blazing 33 degree temperatures enjoyed by Derby Day crowds on the weekend.
Instead, racegoers should be prepared for a cool and windy day at Flemington on Tuesday for the race that stops the nation.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Terry Ryan said after a mild night on Monday, a south westerly wind would keep temperatures at a cool 20 degrees for cup day.
