California Chrome wins Kentucky Derby

California Chrome has swept to a commanding victory in the 140th Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Victor Espinoza took the favourite to the lead at the top of

the straight and powered away to win the 1-1/4-mile (2000m) $2 million Run for the Roses on Saturday (Sunday AEST).

His win makes 77-year-old Art Sherman the oldest trainer to saddle a Kentucky Derby winner.

Commanding Curve ran second ahead of Danza.
