Chad Schofield wins Adelaide Cup
18:04 AEST Mon Mar 10 2014

Jockey-of-the-moment Chad Schofield has racked up another feature win, this time with Outback Joe in the Group Two Adelaide Cup, just two days after he rode Lankan Rupee to take out the Group One Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.

An Elvstroem son of 1991 Caulfield and Melbourne Cups winner Let's Elope, Outback Joe is trained by Nigel Blackiston who was the great mare's strapper when he worked for Bart Cummings.

The six-year-old gelding is owned by his breeder Dennis Marks.

Starting at $7, Outback Joe prevailed in a fighting finish to beat Perth Cup winner Black Tycoon ($17) with Base ($21) third.

Favourite Big Memory beat just one runner home after leading Monday's race for much of the 3200 metres.

Cup day should have been a celebration for local trainer Leon Macdonald, inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame on Sunday, but he watched on in shock as stable jockey Clare Lindop and Australian Derby hopeful Gamblin' Guru came down in the C S Hayes Memorial cup.

Lindop has only just returned from a shoulder injury.

"Clare was talking and aware of what had happened but she has hurt the same shoulder and it looks as if she will be out for some time," Macdonald said.

"The horse has a bit of a bloody nose after doing two somersaults. We won't know until tomorrow how sore he is but he looked all right.

"It's been an up and down weekend."
