Bulleen prove they're up to title task

Bulleen Boomers underlined their credentials for a first WNBL championship in the club's 26-year history with two further weekend wins to push clear at the top of the table.

Last season's grand finalists remain undefeated in four matches, beating Sydney Uni Flames 80-71 away on Friday night before posting a second mauling of the AIS in a week.

Opals forward-centre Elyse Penaluna continued her strong start to the season with another starring role in the 101-55 win over the AIS in Canberra on Saturday.

Penaluna scored a game-high 23 points against the AIS, following up her 12 points and eight rebounds against the Flames the previous night.

The AIS, who were beaten by 70 points the previous week by the Tom Maher-coached Boomers, were never in the hunt as Bulleen led by 28 points at halftime and extended their lead throughout.

Adelaide Lightning also completed an unbeaten start, posting their third successive win with an Angela Marino-inspired 93-87 win over Perth Lynx in Albany.

Guard Marino poured in a game-high 32 points.

She shot seven of 11 from the field, but had the benefit of making from 15 of 19 from the free-throw line as the Lynx continually fell foul of the officials.

Townsville, who didn't play this weekend, are the other undefeated side with two wins from two matches.

Dandenong Rangers' winless start to the season continued with a 75-61 home loss to Logan Thunder on Saturday night.

Kiwi international Natalie Purcell led all scorers with 20 points for Logan - including four-of-five perimeter shooting.

For the Thunder, it was a quick way to make amends for a disappointing one-point defeat by Bendigo on Friday.
