Rogers not ruling out NBL return

Perth Wildcats centre Paul Rogers is clinging to hope he can resume his NBL career.

Rogers came out of hospital two days ago after having an infected bursa removed from his left elbow and is still hooked up to an intravenous drip and taking antibiotics.

But it is a torn triceps muscle sustained in round two that has the 36-year-old's career hanging by a thread, with the upcoming operation to fix that set to sideline him for up to four months.

While coach Rob Beveridge is expecting the dual Olympian to retire, Rogers has not ruled out suiting up for the final five games of the regular season in order to tally the seven games needed to be eligible to play finals.

But to do that he needs to return for the club's home clash with Melbourne on January 23, leaving him little room for error.

Rogers, who has been placed on the long-term injury list, is believed to be weighing up his future and could make a decision one way or the other within the next fortnight.

In the meantime, the Cats have signed 223cm giant Sam Harris as Rogers' replacement, starting with Saturday's match against Adelaide at Challenge Stadium.

But with Kevin Lisch Perth's only import, Beveridge has the luxury of recruiting another overseas player should Harris not have the desired impact.

The 'Cats sit sixth on the table after snaring two wins from their opening four games, while Adelaide are second with two wins from three games.
