A 28-year-old student in the United States has failed in her dream to become the NFL’s first female kicker after an embarrassing try-out in the United States.
Lauren Silbermann, who used to play high-grade soccer, was hoping to take a giant leap toward a new sporting career when she attended a regional audition at the New York Jets’ practice field.
But instead of wowing talent scouts, Silbermann was left nursing a bruised ego when her first effort travelled just 17 metres and her second kick, a paltry 13 metres.
It was later revealed that Silbermann tore her thigh and had never actually kicked in a competitive football game. She managed to make the try-outs because of her overall athleticism.
Media coverage of the event was estimated to be 10 times larger than comparable regional NFL try-outs.
