Cats lose stars for AFL match
14:19 AEST Fri Mar 1 2013

Geelong stars Steve Johnson and Joel Corey are late withdrawals from Saturday's AFL pre-season clash, further weakening the Cats team for the home match against Adelaide.

The Cats announced on Friday that rookie-listed player Ryan Bathie and newcomer Brad Hartman will take their places.

They already have rookie Josh Walker leading the ruck, with Trent West, Hamish McIntosh, Dawson Simpson and Nathan Vardy all missing.

Geelong football manager Neil Balme said Johnson and Corey had pulled up sore from training.

It is proving a tough NAB Cup for Johnson, who received a one-match suspension for striking Fremantle's Hayden Ballantyne in the opening round.

That ban means Johnson will miss the round-one blockbuster on Easter Monday against arch-rivals Hawthorn.

Premiership players Paul Chapman, Andrew Mackie and James Kelly will have their first pre-season hit-outs against the Crows.
