Opals and Bulleen Boomers star Rachel Jarry is the latest Australian to join the American WNBA, signing with the powerful Minnesota Lynx for the 2012-13 season.

Jarry, 21, has averaged 13.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in her fifth WNBL season after impressing off the bench for Australia at the London Olympics.

She joins one of the WNBA's star clubs, with the Lynx winning the title in 2011,and finishing runners-up last year.

"We are looking forward to seeing Rachel in training camp this summer, said Lynx Executive Vice President Roger Griffith on the club website.

"Already a five-year veteran at 21, she has proven to be a difference maker in Australia and should be able to make an immediate impact in the WNBA.

"Rachel's list of accomplishments at such a young age in Australia is impressive: leading her WNBL team to a championship in 2010-11, being named to the WNBL All Star Five in 2011-12 and helping lead the Opals to a bronze medal last summer."

Jarry swells the Australian contingent in the WNBA that includes Jenna O'Hea at the Los Angeles Sparks, Penny Taylor at the Phoenix Mercury and Erin Phillips at the reigning WNBA champion Indiana Fever.

Selected at pick 18 of the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Atlanta Dream, Jarry was traded on draft day to the Minnesota Lynx.

Jarry has established herself as one of the premier players in the WNBL, winning All Star Five honours in 2012 and her continued good form for a struggling Bulleen team has earned her a call-up from Minnesota.

The 2013 WNBA season tips off on May 24.
