Brumbies name full-strength team for trial
17:42 AEST Thu Feb 7 2013

Brumbies superstar recruit David Pocock will run out for his new side for the first time in Canberra after coach Jake White announced a strong line-up for a trial game against the ACT XV on Friday.

The starting team contains seven Wallabies including former Australian outside back Clyde Rathbone who continues his well-documented comeback for the Brumbies after retiring in 2009.

Rathbone scored in the 20-18 trial win over Pocock's former team the Western Force in Darwin last week and looks set to make his return at Super Rugby level for the season opener against Queensland in Canberra on Saturday week.

White said Friday's clash at Viking Park was a good chance for the team to get their combinations right before the grudge match against the Reds - who pipped them for the Australian conference win in the last round of 2012.

"As the first game of the year in Canberra we're really looking for a big crowd to turn up and support the team," White said.

"This match is a good warm up for the main event next week against the Reds.

"Our preparation to this point has been good so I'm expecting the team to play well on Friday."

Number eight Ben Mowen will captain the side which boasts a formidable front-row of Ben Alexander, Stephen Moore and Dan Palmer.

Wallabies inside centre Pat McCabe is the only player of note missing from the line-up and is not expected to recover in time for the Reds' clash after fracturing his neck in Australia's loss to France last November.

Brumbies team (15-1): Jesse Mogg, Joe Tomane, Andrew Smith, Christian Lealiifano, Clyde Rathbone, Matt Toomua, Nic White, Ben Mowen (capt), David Pocock, Peter Kimlin, Scott Fardy, Sam Carter, Dan Palmer, Stephen Moore, Ben Alexander. Res: Siliva Siliva, Ruaidhri Murphy, Leon Power, Colby Faingaa, Ian Prior, Tevita Kuridrani, Zack Holmes.
