Veainu named for Crusaders' warm-up
06:20 AEST Wed Feb 6 2013

Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder has called former national under-20 winger Telusa Veainu into the team to play the Highlanders in the second Super Rugby pre-season warm-up in Oamaru on Friday.

Blackadder is already missing All Black Zac Guildford, who has withdrawn indefinitely from Super Rugby in a bid to resolve the alcohol-related issues that have dogged his career.

Winger Kurt Baker, seen as Guildford's logical replacement, is out for six weeks after tearing a hamstring at the Wellington sevens last weekend.

Veainu, in the Highlanders' wider training squad, is on an interim contract as cover for the outside backs.

Blackadder will also ease some of his more experienced players back into Super Rugby action, with his starting line-up including prop Wyatt Crockett, lock Luke Romano and Israel Dagg, who will start at centre.

The team will be captained by second five-eighth Ryan Crotty.

Crusaders: Tom Marshall, Adam Whitelock, Israel Dagg, Ryan Crotty, Johnny McNicholl, Tom Taylor, Andy Ellis, Jordan Taufua, Shane Christie, Luke Whitelock, Dominic Bird, Luke Romano, Pa'ea Fa'anunu, Ben Funnell, Wyatt Crockett. Reserves: Codie Taylor, Adrian Barone, Joe Moody, Jimmy Tupou, Jeremy Su'a, Willi Heinz, Robbie Fruean, Telusa Veainu, Joel Everson, Mitch Graham, Matt Todd, Tyler Blyendaal, Kieran Fonotia, George Whitelock, James Schrader.
