SCG fans urged to honour Greig, Hussey
15:25 AEST Mon Dec 31 2012

Fans attending the third Test at the SCG are being encouraged to wear tributes to the late Tony Greig and retiring veteran Mike Hussey as well as the traditional pink of the McGrath Foundation.

Officials said they would urge supporters to wear wide-brimmed hats in honour of cricket great and tv commentator Tony Greig who died on Saturday.

And they'd also like people to wear the trademark white zinc of retiring Australian team star Hussey, who will be playing his last Test in the clash with Sri Lanka starting on Thursday.

Both teams will observe a moment's silence before Thursday's opening session and will sport black armbands during the match in honour of Greig, who died aged 66 after suffering a cardiac arrest while fighting lung cancer.

Greig was also a vocal supporter of Sri Lankan cricket and a much-loved figure in both countries.

"He was a great human being and a great voice for Sri Lanka," veteran Thilan Samaraweera said.

Australia have an unassailable 2-0 lead heading into the third and final Test.
