Clarke passes 100 for fifth time in 2012
15:03 AEST Thu Dec 27 2012

Michael Clarke enjoyed a double celebration on Thursday in what has been a golden 2012, breaking the record for most Test runs by an Australian batsman in a calendar year and scoring yet another century.

Clarke was finally dismissed for 106 midway through the second session on day two of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, caught in the slips from the bowling of Shaminda Eranga.

It lifted his 2012 aggregate to 1595 runs at an average of 106.33, beating the old mark of 1544 set by Ricky Ponting in 2005.

The world record is held by Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf who hit 1788 runs in 11 matches in 2006.

Clarke's 187-ball innings of 106 was the fifth time he had reached triple figures in 2012.

On the previous four occasions, the Australian skipper had gone on to make more than 200, with a top score of 329 not out against India in January.
