In what has become an annual event for the American Hockey League’s Hersey Bears, thousands of stuffed toys have been thrown onto the ice during a game against Norfolk Admirals.
The Teddy Bear Toss sees stuffed toys thrown, collected and later donated to charities. This year a record 12,497 toys rained down on the ice in the middle of the game, following the home team’s first goal.
Trailing 3-0 into the second term, the crowd were on the edge of their seats waiting for a goal after several missed opportunities. Bears forward Ryan Potulny fired a slap shot off the goal post and into the path of Tomas Kundratek who slotted it into the net, cutting the Admirals lead to 3-1.
The crowd roared and unleashed the barrage of stuffed animals. It took several minutes to clear the ice as the toys were scooped up into large plastic bags.
Unfortunately for fans, the Bears let in another two goals to lose the game 5-1.
