Review sought of Cycling Australia
14:58 AEST Sat Oct 20 2012

Federal Sport Minister Kate Lundy is championing a review of Cycling Australia that is expected to spark a doping investigation into elite riders, coaches and administrators.

Fairfax says the review is also expected to address claims the national sports federation has been mismanaged.

The new chairman of the Australian Sports Commission, John Wylie, has written to Cycling Australia president Klaus Mueller demanding full inquiries after national coach Matt White was sacked for past doping.

In his letter to Mueller, seen by The Age, Wylie said the commission wanted a full inquiry to satisfy itself that other Cycling Australia employees had not been involved in doping activities.

It also wanted safeguards to ensure prospective employees had not been tainted by doping.

Senator Lundy, who is set to give Australia's sports anti-doping agency stronger investigative powers, said Australia's top cyclists and support staff must come clean or risk being exposed as cheats down the track.

She told the newspaper the sport must confront its past in the aftermath of Lance Armstrong's spectacular downfall.

"I will be asking the Australian Sports Commission to do everything necessary to re-establish confidence in the sport of cycling, including undertaking whatever investigations are necessary to achieve this," she said.
