He came. He saw. He conquered. Then he couldn't get out of the place quick enough.

Now Ange Postecoglou is about to find out what Brisbane Roar fans will remember him for most - his legacy, or his leaving.

Postecoglou's new club Melbourne Victory head to Brisbane for an A-League clash on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium - the cavernous venue where the coach led the Roar to two remarkable grand final wins.

But whether he'll be backslapped or backlashed is the question after Postecoglou quit the Roar straight after last season's grand final to return to Melbourne and rebuild the broken Victory.

Postecoglou turned the Roar from success-starved slackers into a team combining both style and substance, changing Australian club soccer along the way.

Yet his former players have spent the week publicly writing him off as dead to them, and Postecoglou admits he's bemused.

"I expected them to come out today and say I wasn't even living in Brisbane at the time, I was doing it from Melbourne. It's got a bit ridiculous," Postecoglou says of a pre-match build-up he labels distasteful.

"From my point of view, I'm not going to be used as anyone's tool for motivation. I worked pretty hard up there, and I left it in a pretty decent state."

This week Roar striker Besart Berisha has said he wants to send Postecoglou home a loser.

And playmaker Thomas Broich says Postecoglou's former assistant and replacement Rado Vidosic was actually the brains behind the Roar's success.

Vidosic, who has clearly added an element of directness to the build-from-the-back possession game which Postecoglou used to such great effect in Brisbane, says those comments were just psychological gamesmanship.

But they add further spice where none was needed after both sides suffered week one losses, and two coaches desperate to put their stamp on their clubs.

"Ange can take a lot of credit," Vidosic said on Friday.

"It was his team, I was his assistant, I did what he asked me to do and we had a great relationship.

"I was disappointed he left.

"Now I get a chance to stamp my authority on the team."
