Norwegian rally driver Petter Solberg has been involved in a terrifying crash through a vineyard during an overnight stage in the Rally of France.
Solberg was coming fourth overall when he lost control of his Ford and came off the road before hurtling through the roadside vineyard.
Footage from a camera in the Solberg’s Ford showed that vines blinded the Norwegian driver before the car hits the electricity pole and suddenly comes to a halt.
The force of the impact brought the pole to the ground, with spectators seen scuttling away from the falling pole.
Solberg, his co-driver and nearby spectators were not injured in the accident.
Two spectators were hurt in a second crash during the stage when a Citroen driver Nasser Al-Attiyah went off the road.
A press spokeswoman said the supporters were sent to hospital with fractures to the arm and legs.
