Focused, not angry - that's the directive from Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson for their emotion-charged A-League season opener against Brisbane Roar.

Brisbane beat Perth 2-1 in last season's grand final, with Besart Berisha awarded a controversial last-minute penalty.

That match-winning goal is the centrepiece of a provocative Glory advertisement ahead of the new season.

Ferguson loves the drama, calling it tongue-in-cheek and good for the game's promotion, but will demand a professional outlook from his players this Sunday at Patersons Stadium.

"I feel as though we have to let it go, there's no option," he said at Tuesday's season launch in Melbourne.

"We can't dwell on it, it's something that's happened.

"We were pleased to get to the grand final ... Brisbane obviously stole it at the last minute and got a penalty.

"There's no way back from that.

"I feel as though it was a mistake from the referee, personally I do, but I don't hold any grudges with that."

Brisbane are the first team to win successive A-League titles and Ferguson is far more concerned that his team were unable to beat them last season.

After a long pre-season, Ferguson described his players as caged lions who were keen for the real games to start.

"I don't want my players going out there angry, I want my players focussed on trying to get the three points," he said.

"I'm not saying just disregard it, but we have to be prepared professionally, we're ready and we're giving ourselves every opportunity."

New Roar coach Rado Vidosic is confident his team will deal with the inevitable hostility from the Perth crowd.

He joked that Berisha does not understand English very well, so any abuse would not bother him.

More seriously, Vidosic noted that Brisbane's success has made them the team to beat and they have had to cope for a long time with that extra attention.

"Everyone is really keen to beat you and everyone spends a bit of extra time analysing," he said.

"Now we have two titles, it's going to be exactly the same - no difference.

"For us it's just season eight, round one, away from home, away we go.

"This is not something that hasn't happened before."
