Lloyd Williams' intention to run Efficient in the Metropolitan at Randwick on Saturday will ensure weights remain intact for the Group One staying contest.

The 2007 Melbourne Cup winner shares the minimum topweight of 58kg with Rangirangdoo who is scheduled to run in the Epsom over 1600m rather than the 2400m race.

With Efficient in the field, Lamasery, who remains favourite over Glencadam Gold, will carry 54.5kg in his attempt to win a first Group One race for trainer David Vandyke.

The Warwick Farm trainer celebrated a Listed success with Miss Marx in the Testa Rossa Stakes at Caulfield on Sunday, eight days after Lamasery confirmed his comeback from injury with victory in the Group Two Hill Stakes.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained European import Glencadam Gold had his final lead-up in the Newcastle Cup, his third win from three Australian starts.

The Waterhouse-trained Fat Al is the equal favourite alongside Shoot Out for the Epsom Handicap despite his third in Saturday's Shannon Stakes.

Shoot Out won the Group One George Main Stakes on September 22 from his Chris Waller-trained stablemate Rangirangdoo.

"Rangi deserves a chance at the Epsom on that run," Waller said.

The trainer is unlikely to back Kelinni up into the Metropolitan following his Colin Stephen win, preferring to to target Melbourne.

"If he is to go to the Melbourne Cup he has to win a race that will get him further up the order of entry," he said.

The Waterhouse-trained Proisir is the dominant favourite for the Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) for three-year-olds over unbeaten New Zealander It's A Dundeel.

If he wins the Spring Champion and wins well, Waterhouse says Proisir could join star stablemates More Joyous and Pierro in the Cox Plate.

The Flight Stakes (1600m) for three-year-old fillies is the fourth Group One race on Saturday's program and the only one not to have early nominations.

The Bart Cummings-trained Norzita, who lost the Tea Rose Stakes on protest, will be ridden by Hugh Bowman replacing Corey Brown.

Norzita is one of the favourites for the Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on October 17.

Urban Groove emerged as a Flight Stakes contender for the Waterhouse stable with her win in the Reginald Allen (1200m) on Saturday and the trainer said she would back her up at Randwick.

The filly had a belated start to her career due to a cracked pelvis as a two-year-old and the Flight Stakes would be just her third race start.
