Sydney FC signs midfielder Reid
16:05 AEST Sat Sep 22 2012

Sydney FC have strengthened their roster for the upcoming A-League season by signing former Adelaide midfielder Paul Reid.

The 33-year-old, who made two appearances for the Socceroos in 2009, had been training with the squad and has earned a one-year contract starting next month.

Reid comes to Sydney with a wealth of experience, having started his career with Wollongong in the NSL before stints in England with Bradford City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

He returned to Australia and made 60 appearances for Adelaide in the A-League before brief stints with Melbourne Heart and, most recently, Thai side Police United.

Sydney FC coach Ian Crook said Reid would add experience and strength in the middle of the park.

"Defensively he's strong in the midfield but he is also a winner, a good pro and he will help get us to where we are trying to get," Crook said.

The Sky Blues are still weighing up whether to sign former Socceroos star Jason Culina, who has also been training with the side as he rebuilds from a career-threatening knee injury.
