The Holden Racing Team has produced an immediate response to new V8 Supercar entrants Mercedes Benz and Nissan by unveiling its Car of the Future chassis.

Just a day after long-time Ford team, Stone Brothers Racing announced it would field three Mercedes-Benz AMG E-Class race cars next year, HRT rolled out its new entry.

The car was handed to Bathurst winner Nick Percat for its first shake-down at Melbourne's Calder Park under the eye of team-mate Garth Tander.

"As a tragic HRT fan, today is a pretty special day for me," Percat said.

"To be the first to drive the team's first Car Of The Future is a special moment."

Percat drove around 20 laps of the Calder Park circuit and said the new car was completely different to the Commodore he drove to victory at Bathurst with Tander last October.

"Every single aspect is different, it's nothing like what we are currently driving so it's going to take a fair bit for drivers and engineers to adapt," he said.

"With the transaxle gearbox and independent rear suspension, the way you drive into a corner is entirely different.

"Not having driven V8s for the past 15 years might help a few young guys like myself to come through into the main game as this car is a whole different ball game."

Percat said the shakedown went without a hitch and would give HRT a solid start in its preparations for the Car Of The Futures introduction.

"From the moment this new Commodore rolled out of the transporter the day's gone smoothly. We've been very happy with how it's progressed," he said.

"There's more competition next year so this gives HRT a head start on the Nissans and Mercedes teams - we'll hit the ground running at (the 2013 season-opener) Clipsal," he said.
