McGlynn a chance if Swans make grand final

Sydney small forward Ben McGlynn will miss Friday night's AFL preliminary final against Collingwood, but the club is hopeful his season isn't over yet.

It was initially thought McGlynn's 2012 campaign ended when he injured his hamstring in week one of the finals against Adelaide.

However, the pint-sized sharpshooter was given the less severe prognosis of 2-3 weeks, and since then has been working on rehabilitation with a similar tenacity to what he shows on the field.

The 27-year-old was restricted to light jogging at training on Wednesday, and physiotherapist Matt Cameron confirmed McGlynn would not be taking the field at ANZ Stadium this week.

"It's about eight or nine days now since he was injured and things are progressing along," Cameron told the club's website.

"He's not going to be available this weekend, unfortunately, but he is making progress and we will reassess things on the weekend."

Should the Swans snap their 11-match losing streak against the Magpies, McGlynn could come into contention for the grand final side.

"At this stage he's not ready to team train and that makes him unavailable," Cameron said.

"If we do get through to that weekend, there is still another ten days to go and he is certainly making progress."
