Pies' Wellingham wants to focus on finals

Sought-after Collingwood midfielder Sharrod Wellingham remains confident he will be a Magpie in 2013 and beyond.

Wellingham comes off contract at the end of the AFL season, and is understood to be a prime target for Melbourne.

The Magpies have several players still out of contract and face a salary cap squeeze to fit all of them in.

Key forward Travis Cloke remains the most obvious out-of-contract domino to fall, and when he signs and for how much could determine the size of any deal for Wellingham.

But 24-year-old West Australian Wellingham, who could also be a target for West Coast and Fremantle to lure home, says his focus is Collingwood's finals campaign rather than contract talks.

"It's the last thing on my mind at the moment," he said.

"I've left it up to my manager and said 'you worry about it'. It's up to my manager (when I sign a new contract)."

Wellingham had a stunning start to the season. But his form wavered after a three-match suspension for a high bump which broke Carlton rival Kade Simpson's jaw.

He was back to near his best in the Magpies' 13-point semi-final win over West Coast at the weekend, and hopes to continue in that vein in Friday night's preliminary final against Sydney at ANZ Stadium.
