Petrenko a chance for Crows in AFL

Adelaide goalsneak Jared Petrenko is confident of overcoming a dislocated shoulder and playing against Hawthorn in Saturday's AFL preliminary final.

Petrenko was in tears after Adelaide's semi-final victory against Fremantle, having injured his shoulder in the final minutes.

But the 22-year-old on Monday surprisingly took part in the Crows' light training session.

"He is quite buoyant in terms of his chance," Adelaide assistant coach Mark Bickley told reporters.

"Obviously it's going to be tough for him to get up, and the style of play he plays, he's a pretty rugged type.

"But at the same time he's also a very professional and very determined young man.

"He certainly hasn't been ruled out."

The Crows lost rookie defender Sam Shaw, his season ended by a hamstring injury against the Dockers - a week after fellow backman Daniel Talia broke an arm.

Versatile Andy Otten, who has played just five games this season, looms as Shaw's replacement.

"We are delving pretty deep into our key position stocks in key defenders," Bickley said, noting the departures of Nathan Bock and Phil Davis to AFL newcomers Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.

"And we have lost a couple with injury late this year.

"So to be able to have a player in the calibre of Andy - had finals experience before, bigger body and has proven that he can stand up and play on a big stage - that is probably a fortunate position to be in."
