South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has delivered what may be the worst ball in history.

Morkel delivered a full leg-side wide that missed the pitch and sped past the wicketkeeper for four runs as his side began its third Twenty20 against England.

The delivery was his third ball of the match and was immediately compared to Steve Harmison's first ball in the 2006/07 Ashes series.

The giant fast bowler conceded 16 runs in his first over as South Africa sunk to a 28-run defeat in the rain reduced match at Edgbaston.

In a horror night for South Africa’s bowlers, Morkel’s teammate Wayne Parnell was smashed for 32 runs in the ninth over of the innings by England's Jos Buttler.

It was the second most expensive over in Twenty20 history after England captain Stuart Broad was hit for 36 in an over by Indian star Yuvraj Singh during the first T20 World Cup in 2007.
