Carlton will hold a news conference on Tuesday at which Mick Malthouse is expected to be unveiled as the AFL club's new coach.

Fairfax reports the former Collingwood and West Coast mentor will sign for three years.

It's understood he will continue working with the Seven TV network and radio 3AW through the AFL finals and won't officially start with the Blues until November 1 when the players return from their post-season holiday.
