Matai facing one-match NRL ban
15:41 AEST Mon Sep 10 2012

Manly centre Steve Matai can escape with just a one-week ban for his high tackle in Friday night's NRL qualifying final loss to Canterbury.

Matai was given a grade two careless high tackle charge by the match review committee for his 19th minute hit on Sam Perrett, which carries a base penalty of 125 points.

Even with loading for a similar offence and 46 carry-over points, the New Zealand international will only miss Friday night's semi-final against North Queensland with an early guilty plea.

Matai would risk a two-match ban if he unsuccessfully challenged the charge at the NRL judiciary.

It was even better news for Sea Eagles co-captain Jason King, who will not miss any football despite being charged with a grade one careless high tackle for his swinging arm on rival prop Aiden Tolman.

Melbourne pair Kevin Proctor and Siosaia Vave can both escape suspension with early guilty pleas after being charged with dangerous throws following their lifting tackle on South Sydney's Sam Burgess.
