Lynch to face AFL panel scrutiny

A clumsy spoil will put West Coast forward Quinten Lynch in the sights of the AFL match review panel.

The Eagles, Hawthorn and Collingwood will all sweat on Monday's panel findings, with Magpies captain Nick Maxwell already on report for rough conduct.

Lynch collected Scott McMahon with a knee to the back as the North Melbourne defender went for a mark in the first quarter of the Eagles' big elimination final win on Sunday.

Kangaroos veteran Brent Harvey also faces a late start to next season after he collected Eagles midfielder Daniel Kerr with a high forearm just before three-quarter time.

But it is Friday night's rugged qualifying final between the Hawks and Magpies that will keep the panel busy.

St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt joined Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley in supporting Maxwell for his incident, which left Hawthorn forward Paul Puopolo with a bloodied nose.

Puopolo turned around and pointed angrily at Maxwell as trainers led him from the field for treatment.

Buckley said Maxwell was only trying to block Puopolo as the ball was kicked into Hawthorn's attack and noted his captain was much taller than the Hawthorn player.

Sitting beside Maxwell at Channel Seven's Game Day program on Sunday morning, Riewoldt said similar incidents happened many times during matches.

But the incident was caught on video and the fact that contact was undoubtedly high could count against Maxwell.

The Collingwood captain has no carryover points or relevant tribunal record, which will count in his favour if the panel decide to charge him.

The same applies to Hawks ruck-forward Jarryd Roughead, who bumped Chris Dawes well off the ball in the first term of the match.

Down-the-ground footage showed the incident clearly and Dawes briefly went to ground after the contact, although he played out the match.

It is similar to the incident that forced Geelong star Steve Johnson out of Saturday night's elimination final loss to Fremantle with a one-game ban.

Magpies key defender Chris Tarrant might escape a charge for his blow to Lance Franklin's midriff early in the match.

The only other charge so far from the weekend's finals was a rough conduct report on Geelong midfielder James Kelly against Tendai Mzungu.

Kelly, like Harvey, will probably carry a suspension into the start of next season.
