Fever sign another Diamonds shooter

West Coast Fever have assembled one of the the tallest and most potent contingent of shooters put together by an Australian trans-Tasman netball team, signing Diamonds representative Kate Beveridge.

WA product Beveridge has returned to the west after three years at the Adelaide Thunderbirds, where she won a title in 2010, and the past two seasons at 2012 runner-up Melbourne Vixens.

She has signed a two-year contract with Fever, who finished eighth in the ten-team competition in 2012 and are the only one of the five Australian franchises not to have won the tournament.

The 193cm shooter will vie for playing time with fellow Fever and Diamonds representatives Catherine Cox (188cm) and Caitlin Bassett (192 cm), with all three probably most comfortable at goal shooter.

"I do know I am going to have to work hard to earn my position this year," Beveridge said.

"I will be playing with the two best goal shooters in Australia, but I am really looking forward to the challenge.

"Whilst I haven't stepped out at goal attack in this last season, it was all I played in my last year at Thunderbirds so if I can get coached in that position again, I would relish the chance to have a run."

Beveridge last played for her home state team in 2007, when she lined up for the Perth Orioles in the Commonwealth Bank Trophy.

She stressed having her former Australian coach Norma Plummer in charge of Fever was part of the attraction of returning to Perth.

"Norma is a huge draw to come to the Fever and I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to be coached by her on a daily basis," Beveridge said.

"I feel that Norma has always got the best from me, so learning from her for the next two seasons is a luxury not to be passed up,"
