Burgess backs Souths to cover King loss

South Sydney enforcer Sam Burgess is backing the Rabbitohs' depth to come to the fore as they attempt to cope with the expected loss of experienced centre Matt King for Saturday's NRL elimination final against Canberra or Cronulla.

The Rabbitohs refused to concede King's season was officially over until he went for scans on Sunday on a suspected fractured arm suffered in Saturday night's 24-6 finals loss to Melbourne.

The former Storm centre was in tears in the dressing room after suffering the second-half injury and had his arm in a sling after the game.

But if he is ruled out, Burgess has faith in Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire picking the right man for the job to fill King's boots with the versatile Chris McQueen in the frame for a promotion off the bench.

"It's sad for Matt obviously. He's put a lot of effort in all year," Burgess said.

"To get an injury at this stage is unfortunate but I'm sure Madge (Maguire) will pick the right player and who ever comes in will be ready and willing to do a job for us."
