Socceroo captain Lucas Neill joins Al Wasl
08:47 AEST Mon Aug 27 2012

Australian soccer captain Lucas Neill has joined United Arab Emirates club Al Wasl.

The 34-year-old Socceroos' defender, released by UAE's Al Jazira in June, said on his website that he had signed a one-year deal with the Dubai team. He did not give details.

Neill, who has also played for Galatasaray, Blackburn and West Ham, said he was looking forward to working with coach Bruno Metsu.

Argentine great Diego Maradona was replaced by Metsu as Al Wasl's coach following an eighth place finish in the 12-team league.
