A lay day has been called for the world championship tour surfing event at Teahupoo reef in Tahiti.

The fifth stop of the 10-round ASP world championship will begin the third round when conditions improve.

Nine Australians have made it through to the third round with current world No.1 Mick Fanning to lead the way with the opening heat against Hawaiian Fredrick Patacchia.
