The media had to scramble to safety at the beach volleyball after sections of the floor gave in following the women's beach volleyball final.
Reporters were interviewing beach volleyball champions Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings on Wednesday night when parts of the flooring gave way, sending reporters scrambling for stable ground.
No one was injured in the media mixed zone, and the two newly-crowned gold medallists only slightly lost their balance before being ushered away.
One of the joints that held the floor together dropped more than a foot, causing several panels to break apart under reporters' feet.
The interviews were halted while reporters were escorted out of the area.
They resumed in a news conference room a few minutes later.
Officials went to work immediately to repair it in time for the men's final on Thursday.
