Australian Annette Edmondson has some work ahead of her if she is to catch the two omnium leaders at Olympic track cycling.
The 20-year-old is third on 17 points after three of the six events, but she is five behind British world champion Laura Trott and American Sarah Hammer.
Edmondson made an encouraging start with third in the flying lap and scored the same result in the elimination race at the end of the Monday session.
But she may rue her 11th in the 20km points race, one placing behind Trott.
Edmondson is one point ahead of Canadian Tara Whitten.
The Australian was part of the team pursuit squad that finished a heartbreaking fourth earlier in the Olympic track program.
