Australian Olympic athlete Matthew Mitcham has shown he can hit some high notes as well as perform a high dive.

Mitcham, playing the ukulele, sung the theme song to his favourite television show Family Guy while sitting in his room at the London 2012 athletes' village.

"You are just perfect, what can't you do? Cute and adorable. Checked. Sporty. Checked. Musical. Checked. Speak different languages. Checked. Speak for human rights. Checked," YouTube user alexkinchung commented.

The 24-year-old Queenslander is quickly becoming an internet sensation, with another song he posted last week — a ukulele cover of Beyonce's Single Ladies — receiving over 80,000 views.

"I profess to be neither a great instrumentalist nor singer, I'm just an Olympic diver who likes to strum away in his spare time," Mitcham said.

Mitcham won the gold medal in the men's 10m platform at the Beijing 2008 Olympics, becoming the first Australian male to win an Olympic diving gold medal since 1924.

He also made headlines in Beijing for being one of few openly gay male athletes. This year in London there are reportedly 23 openly gay Olympians, three of them men.

Mitcham begins his title defence with the 10m platform preliminary round on Friday in London, with the finals on Saturday.
