As the swimming events at the London Games draw to a close, it may be time to pull the plug at the Olympic aquatic centre after a star athlete admitted to relieving himself in the pool.
American swimmer Ryan Lochte who collected five medals, including two gold, at the Stratford venue revealed he has added to the fluid levels at Olympic Park.
"Of course," the popular 28-year-old replied when asked on US radio if he and other Olympic swimmers relieve themselves in the pool.
"I think there's just something about getting into chlorine water that you just automatically go. (I didn't) during the races, but I sure did in warm-up."
The admission confirms recent comments made by former US swimming national team member, Carly Geehr, that "nearly 100 per cent" of professional swimmers treat the pool as a giant toilet.
"Some deny it, some proudly embrace it, but everyone does it," she revealed on information-sharing website, Quora.com
